Daily Living Supports & Activities

The things most people take for granted — getting dressed in the morning, cooking a meal, catching up with friends, getting to a doctor's appointment — can require real effort when you're living with disability. MediHealth Connect's daily living supports are designed to bridge that gap, helping you do more of what matters with the right level of assistance.

We don't take over your life. We support the parts that need it, so you can stay in control of the rest.

What Are Daily Living Supports Under the NDIS?

Daily living supports fall under the Core Supports category in your NDIS plan, specifically "Assistance with Daily Life." This funding is designed to help you with everyday tasks that your disability makes difficult — whether that's personal care, household activities, or getting out into the community.

The level of support varies. Some participants need a few hours a week to help with shopping and meal prep. Others need daily personal care, community access support, and assistance throughout the day. MediHealth Connect tailors the service to what you actually need, not a one-size-fits-all package.

Daily Living Services We Provide

Personal Care

Help with showering, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene. Our support workers are trained, respectful, and matched to your preferences. We understand that personal care is exactly that — personal — and we approach it with the dignity it deserves.

Meal Preparation and Nutrition

Whether you need help planning meals, shopping for groceries, cooking, or managing dietary requirements, our support workers can assist. For participants with specific nutritional needs related to their disability, we coordinate with dietitians and your healthcare team.

Community Access and Social Participation

Getting out of the house and being part of your community is fundamental to wellbeing. Our support workers accompany participants to social activities, recreational programs, community events, shopping centres, parks, libraries, and anywhere else you want to go. The goal is participation, not just presence.

Household Tasks

Light housekeeping, laundry, tidying, bed-making, and maintaining a clean living environment. These tasks support your health and independence, and they're funded under your NDIS plan when your disability prevents you from doing them independently.

Skill Building for Daily Living

Where appropriate, we work with you to build your skills so you can do more independently over time. That might mean learning to cook simple meals, managing your own medication routine, using public transport, or developing a morning routine that works for you.

Overnight and 24-Hour Support

For participants who need support around the clock, MediHealth Connect provides overnight and active 24-hour support in your home or supported living environment. Our rostering ensures continuity — you're not constantly meeting new faces.

How Daily Living Supports Are Funded

Daily living supports are funded under Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life in your NDIS plan. This budget covers support workers, personal care, community access, and related services.

The amount of funding depends on your assessed needs. If your current plan doesn't include enough daily living funding, your support coordinator can help you request a plan review with supporting evidence from your treating team.

MediHealth Connect charges in line with the NDIS Price Guide. We're transparent about costs and keep you informed about how your funding is being used.

Our Approach to Daily Living Support

Consistency matters. We assign regular support workers wherever possible. Getting to know your routines, preferences, and communication style makes for better support — and it means your worker notices when something changes.

Flexibility is built in. Your needs might change week to week. Maybe you need extra support during a health flare-up, or less when you're having a good stretch. We adjust scheduling to match your reality.

Training and supervision. Every MediHealth Connect support worker is screened, trained, and supervised. For participants with specific clinical or behavioural needs, workers receive additional targeted training.

Cultural sensitivity. South East Queensland has a diverse community, and we respect cultural practices, dietary requirements, language preferences, and family dynamics in how we deliver daily living support.

Where We Provide Daily Living Supports

MediHealth Connect delivers daily living support across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, and the Redlands. Our support workers are based locally in each region for reliable, consistent service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose my own support worker?

Yes. MediHealth Connect matches you with workers based on your preferences, needs, and personality. If a match isn't working, we'll find someone who is.

What's the difference between daily living supports and domestic assistance?

Daily living supports focus on personal care and community participation — the things you do for yourself. Domestic assistance focuses on household tasks like cleaning and gardening — the things you do to maintain your home. They're funded from different parts of your plan, and MediHealth Connect provides both.

Can support workers help with medication?

Support workers can remind you to take medication and assist with pre-packaged medications (like Webster packs) if a registered nurse has set up a delegation arrangement. For actual medication administration, you'll need community nursing. MediHealth Connect provides both services.

How many hours of daily living support can I get?

The hours depend on your NDIS plan funding. Your support coordinator can help you understand how many hours are available and how to use them effectively.
