What Is NDIS Transport Funding?

Transport is funded under the NDIS because the scheme recognises that disability can create barriers to getting around. If public transport isn't accessible for you, or you need support to travel safely, your NDIS plan may include transport funding.

Transport funding typically appears in your plan under Core Supports — Transport. The amount depends on your assessed needs and whether you have access to other transport options like public transport, family support, or the state government's taxi subsidy scheme.

How MediHealth Connect Helps with Transport

Transport to Appointments

We arrange transport to medical appointments, therapy sessions, and health-related visits. This includes door-to-door pickup, assistance getting in and out of the vehicle, and waiting if needed.

Community Access Transport

Getting to community activities, social programs, shopping, recreational events, and other outings. Our transport service supports your participation in community life, not just medical care.

Travel Training

For participants who want to build their independence with transport, we offer travel training. This involves teaching you how to plan routes, read timetables, use public transport safely, and navigate unfamiliar areas. The goal is for you to travel independently over time.

Support Worker Accompanied Transport

When you need a support worker with you during travel — whether for physical assistance, behavioural support, or safety — our workers provide accompanied transport as part of your daily living support.

How Transport Funding Works

Your NDIS plan may include transport funding in several ways:

Transport allowance — a set amount per plan period that you can use flexibly for transport costs, including taxis, rideshare, or fuel costs for a private vehicle.

Provider-delivered transport — where a provider like MediHealth Connect arranges and delivers transport as part of your service. This is charged at NDIS Price Guide rates.

Transport within other supports — when transport is bundled with another service (for example, a support worker driving you to a community activity as part of your daily living support).

Your MediHealth Connect support coordinator can help you understand which type of transport funding you have and how to use it most effectively.

Where We Provide Transport

MediHealth Connect delivers transport services across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, and the Redlands. Our drivers and support workers are based locally, which means shorter wait times and familiarity with local routes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use NDIS transport funding for taxis?

Yes. If your plan includes a transport allowance, you can generally use it for taxis, rideshare services, or fuel costs. Check with your support coordinator for specific plan rules.

Do you provide wheelchair-accessible transport?

We arrange wheelchair-accessible vehicles where required. Let us know your accessibility needs and we'll make sure the right vehicle is available.

Can transport be combined with other supports?

Yes. Transport is often combined with daily living support or community access. For example, a support worker might drive you to a community activity and provide support during the activity as well.

How do I get transport funding in my NDIS plan?

Transport funding is included based on your assessed needs. If you don't currently have transport in your plan but need it, your support coordinator can help you request a plan review with evidence from your treating team.
